I believe it is important that constituents have access to council representatives in order to share and express concerns and ideas at times other than regular council meetings. It is most unfortunate that council persons do not have a private office and/or hours set aside to meet and speak with constituents.
With this in mind, and understanding that the city budget is possible at it's peak, I pledge $1,200 of my $3,000 annual salary to go towards a downtown office for this purpose. An equally generous offer has been made to match this amount by the building owner with furnishing.
It is my hope that citizen volunteers will staff the office to set appointments for the council person/s and answers basic questions. This should make for true participatory politics with a holistic form of government leadership fueled by citizen partnership.
